APIDA Heritage Month

The Department of Multicultural Services and the Asian Presidents’ Council (APC) welcomes the Texas A&M Community in celebrating and supporting its annual APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American) Heritage Month, a month dedicated to acknowledging the culture, diversity, and rich history of the APIDA community.

APIDA Heritage Month is a month-long celebration (held in April at Texas A&M) to recognize and pay tribute to the contributions generations of APIDAs have made to American history, society, and culture. Our APIDA month is in April even though May is supposed to be APIDA month because the school semester does not extend over all of May. The importance of May is that it commemorates the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869.

The APIDA culture is an integral part of our community and us as individuals. Please join us to celebrate and pay tribute to the contributions generations of Asian/Pacific Americans have made to American history, society and culture!
